Questions regarding Bolter’s article:
1) How do Bolter’s definitions of mediation, hypermediation, and remediation interact/intersect? Do they compliment each other (work together) or challenge each other (contest independently)?
2) According to Bolter, how can we achieve transparent mediacy, or “achieve the real”? Can hypermediacy lead to a more realistic experience, or would being bombarded with media take away from a realistic experience?
3) What is the point of achieving transparent mediacy? If the person using the media knows that it is media (i.e. knows he/she is playing a life-simulating video game that is not actual reality) then why the push for complete realism? If a person is sitting at a computer or needs to put special goggles on to experience virtual reality then wouldn’t he/she know it is not real life? Can a person ever escape the media he/she is using while using that specific media?
